Trip to Romería Los Realejos
Romería en honor a San Isidro, Los Realejos
Every year the famous Romería takes place in Los Realejos. This year, the festivity was on the 28th may 2006. Full of enthusiasm and curiosity, Maria, Jörg and Romaine decided to see what this special canary’s celebration was all about. We met at the Bus station in Puerto de la Cruz at 13:30 and drove 20 minutes up to Los Realejos. On the bus we could already see the local diverse traditional costumes.
When we arrived at Los Realejos the festival had already begun. Everyone was dancing, singing, eating and of course: drinking. Different traditional groups went through the streets of Los Realejos with their own decorated carriages. The Romería kept going on all day and nobody thought about stopping at nighttime....

Maria, Jörg and Romaine positioned themselves along the road to get the best view on this breathtaking spectacle.
The carts were decorated with natural field products and folklore groups, dancing choruses and ox herder from all over the Canary Island. They were attend by many persons with traditional costumes.
Maria and Romaine entered the mass of people to get their share of the fantastic grilled meat and some red wine.
The decorated carts were driving through Los Realejos all day long, distributing wine and food for everyone, presenting dances and playing the guitar until the late evening hours.
