Mountainbiking
The area around the volcano Teide offers excellent conditions for mountainbikers and downhill trips. You may rent bikes in Puerto de la Cruz or book guided trips to the mountains. For "lazy" people bus tours to Teide are offered and then downhill with the bicycle.Below there are some highlights of over 40 excursions.
Orotava-Valley
The Orotava-Valley offers everything a mountainbiker could want: gnarly single trails, tough climbs and speedy downhills to Puerto de la Cruz. One excursion starts on the westside of the valley and leads through a wonderful jungle to an outlook with panoramic views into the valley and on the coastline. After a few meters of uphill you will arrive at the eastern end of the valley with the picnic-area "La Caldera". In the nearby tavern you can enjoy typical food. A downhill through out the Pine-Forest brings you back to Puerto de la Cruz. For single trail-freaks there is also a nice trail through fincaland and wine yards.
Arenas Negras
This volcanic area offers many scenic views on the Teide, combined with an enchanting landscape of black lava contrasting with fresh green pine-trees. After a modest climb through the Volcan Negro area you are rewarded with views on the neighbour islands La Plama and La Gomera. Continuing the tour to the latest volcanic eruption, the Chinyero (in 1909), and finish at a really special tavern.
Teno
The Teno Mountains in the southwest belong like Anaga-Mountains to the oldest parts of the island. Deep canyons and a rough coastline offer fantastic views. This tour starts with an uphill to the highest point in Teno. Via a long single trail you will head towards the beautiful village Masca. After a more or less strenuous climb on asphalt you reach a scenic forrest-path which we follow for 18 km through tropical green laurel forests back to your starting point. This area offers also an eldorado for singletrail-freaks.
Anaga
The Anaga-Mountains are marvellous mountain biking area. Naturalists and Single trail-lovers are equally rewarded here. Deep jungles invite to be explored; breathtaking views over the coastline of the northeast justify the up hills. The numerous donkey-trails lead over technically challenging stone-steps into secluded valleys. One wonderful roundtrip starts with a moderate uphill through rainforests. Narrow paths bring you to a small canarian tavern where you can strengthen yourselves for the rest of the tour which ends with an impressive single trail.
Cańadas
An Unique tour through a bizarre crater-landscape above the clouds. The starting point is at 2200 m of elevation and leads you on the top of the eastern crater-rim southwards. Between rock-formations you are rewarded with grand views on the majestic Teide. A quite rough path brings you after a short downhill back to the rim of the Canadas. Barely imaginable that in the months of May and June this slim vegetation in the rock desert awakes to life: the marvellous white Teide-broom and the round bushes of the Teide-marguerites provide this landscape with a surreal atmosphere. Via lava sand tracks and through the pine-forest of the Orotava-Valley the tour does finish with a 2000 meter downhill back to Puerto de la Cruz.
