Romería de La Orotava
ROMERIA DE LA OROTAVA
25.06.2006
Around noon you could already hear the typical „Viva San Isidro!“ shouts from the Casa de los Balcones – the starting point of the traditional “Romería in honour of San Isidro Labrador and Santa María de la Cabeza”.

It was without a doubt a special day since it was the 70th anniversary of the Romería in La Orotava. We were told that over the years, this Romería turned into “the most beautiful festival of the Canary Islands”.
Every year it attracts thousands of pilgrims and spectators like us and the number of carts and participants is increasing continuosly.
On this day many people wear the typical colourful costumes and together they roam around the steep streets walking behind the beautifully decorated carts.
Even after 70 years, the Romería in La Orotava is still one of the best traditional festivities of the whole island.
We had a wonderful day and this year again we enjoyed the Romería very much.
