November at the F+U Academy in Puerto de la Cruz
With our International Language School and EU funded Leonardo da Vinci and Grundvig further education programmes Puerto de la Cruz is already on the world map. This year’s EU funded programmes : Partner from Turkey
In February we welcomed eight Grundtvig funded teachers from Turkey on an education fact finding mission. Over the course of three weeks we were able to show them all the varied type of educational establishments we have on the island. This included a kindergarten, primary and secondary schools, and the English/Spanish bilingual Trinity School in Los Realejos. For the further education sector we took them to the Iriate School of Tourism in Puerto and the Hotel School in Santa Cruz and a vocation training college. With the help our interpreter we organised a full programme of cultural visits and a meeting with the Town Council of Puerto de la Cruz. Apart from the Science and Natural History museums a particular favourite is always the trip to the El Teide National Park with its dramatic volcanic landscape topped by the highest peak in Spain.
EU Partner from England
In July we were proud to have our first Leonardo da Vinci funded group from the UK. The three students came from the Travel and Tourism Department of Filton College in Bristol. Initially they attended our language Academy for an intensive Spanish Course and then took up work experience placements in a hotel in Los Christianos. This also included after school activities and excursions including the "must" of Tenerife, Loro Parque, which includes the world’s greatest collection of parrots and the recently acquired Orcas, or killer whales, from Seaworld in Florida. It was a great opportunity for the students to experience a different language and culture and mix with people from many different countries in the hotel. Their inclusion in this LdV Mobility Project will be a definite plus point on their CVs and it gave them the chance of traveling abroad but with the experienced back up of our internship placement staff at the Academy.
While the rest of Europe is feeling the temperature going down and the leaves turning to from green to gold, here in the Canaries the tourist season lasts all year. Now the flights have come down in price after the school holidays this is an ideal time to visit. Why not come to our Academy and learn the language while you are here?
Combine a bit of learning with a trip to our great new attraction:
Siam Park
Last month saw the opening of Europe’s largest water park in the South of Tenerife, it covers an area of 185,000 sq.m. and offers entertainment for all the family.
