DELE stands for “Diploma de Español como Lengua Extranjera”. It is the official exam to evaluate your knowledge of the Spanish language. Anyone who doesn’t speak Spanish as their mother tongue can take the exam.
Our Academy in Puerto de la Cruz operates as one of more than 900 examination centres.
What Is the DELE Exam About?
The exam is divided into the following four skill sets, including oral and written tests:
1. Reading comprehension
2. Written expression and interaction
3. Listening comprehension
4. Oral expression and interaction
The DELE exams are held for the six different levels, as described by the CEFR:
- A1 – Breakthrough
- A2 – Waystage
- B1 – Threshold
- B2 – Vantage
- C1 – Effective Operational Proficiency
- C2 – Mastery
Schoolchildren aged between 11 and 16 can also take an examination (A1, A2/B1) especially designed for this age group.
What Are the Benefits of Taking the DELE Exam?

DELE Diplomas of Spanish are certifications granted by Instituto Cervantes on behalf of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport of Spain.
