DELE-Exams at Tenerife – on May 20th and 21th 2011The DELE (Diplomas de Español como Lengua Extranjera) exams are a qualification in Spanish as a Foreign Language from the Ministry of Education and Science, and are set by the Instituto Cervantes. The certificates are official documents which denote the level of Spanish knowledge and are recognised internationally. This spring the exam takes place on May 20th and 21th. Two of our students will sit the exam: Janne at C1 level and Sandra at B2 level. We wish them all the best and success in the exam!
The Teide Observatory – the Tenerife Astrophysics Institute
The Canary Islands Astrophysics Institute is one of several observatories on Mount Izaña, which is 2.390 m high. It is not far away from the in Spain’s highest peak, Mount Teide at 3.718 m. The clarity and the excellent quality of the sky in the area makes it possible to take excellent pictures of the moon, the sun and, of course, of the stars. Fiesta of the Cross in Puerto de la Cruz
One of the traditional days in Puerto de la Cruz is the Fiesta of the Cross, on May 3rd. Around 200 crosses are fixed to walls or in chapels in the town and all are decked with flowers for the occasion. As the tradition requires, you can have a look in the various chapels which are consecrated to the Holy Cross. There are more than 30 of them in Puerto de la Cruz. You will be surprised how lovingly the decoration is prepared.
Jazz Concert - Avishai Cohen live in Santa Cruz de Tenerife on May 7th
Avishai Cohen was born in 1970 in Israel; in 1992 he moved to New York. He is a virtuoso double bass player. His music is influenced by his Jewish roots as well as from many different styles from around the world. You can enjoy his music while you are in Tenerife as he is appearing in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, on May 7th at 21.00 at the “Auditorio de Tenerife Adán Martín”. If you take the express bus no.103 from Puerto de la Cruz from the Supermercado 2000 stop just down the road from the FU International Academy, it takes 30 minutes to get there.
Exhibition “Sahara” in the Museum of History and Anthropology in La Laguna
One of the sites of the Museum of History and Anthropology in La Laguna (Museo de Historia y Antropología) is called “La Casa Lercaro”. Up to May 29th, you can visit an exhibition about the largest deserts in the world: the “Sahara”. The pictures are by the photographer Tomás Azcárate Ristori.
Theatre Festival in La Laguna
In May you can join a special theatre festival at the university of La Laguna. For ten days you can enjoy different plays by a total of nine theatre groups. The way from the FU International Academy in Puerto de la Cruz to La Laguna is easy: the bus takes just 30 minutes to get there.
