The Kings Parade (Cabalgata de Reyes) in Tenerife, January 5

It is held in many places around the island, including Santa Cruz, San Cristobal de La Laguna, Puerto de la Cruz, Arona and Adeje. The main Cabalgata de Reyes of Tenerife takes place in Santa Cruz, on the night of January 5. That day “Los Tres Reyes Magos” (the Three Wise Men) are honored, starting the parade at 18:30 from the Heliodoro Rodriguez Lopez Football Stadium to tour the streets of city.

Traditionally whole families go out on the streets to see the Three Wise Men. During the whole parade candies are thrown, also toys and many other presents. This night the kids have to go to bed early because during the night the Three Wise Men will leave some presents that they will find in the morning. (Even though some people in Spain already give the presents on the 25 of December instead of that night).

The Three Wise Men Day, January 6

One of the main holidays in Spain is called “el dia de los Reyes Magos”. This holiday takes place the 6 of January. The tradition consist getting up early in the morning, the whole family meets to give each other presents.

The more exquisite tradition that day is the “Roscón de Reyes” (the kings' ring). The Roscón is kind of a sweet big bagel that has small figures inside.
Those figures can change in each Roscón but there are always two which are obligatory, the king and the bean. The tradition says that the one that gets the king have to wear the crown that you get with each Roscón. So this makes you the king of the day. The poor one finding the bean in has to pay the Roscón!

Merry Christmas and a happy new year!
